could this have happened to you?

I was bumming around this morning, having a hard time doing much of anything and finally decided that a quick shower would jump start me. The 4 year old was playing video games and I put the 1 year old in the playpen. I told my son to come tell me if she cried "super a lot of crying" and he said OK.

With conditioner in my hair, I hear the door open. (I would love to not shut it in the first place, but it makes our smoke detector go off) There is my son, carrying his sister under her arms.

"I'm bringing you Alli."

(Thank you captain obvious.)

"Why, was she crying?"

"No, she wanted a shower."

He starts stripping her, takes her (dry) diaper off and then takes his own clothes off and they both climb in. Oh well.

During the shower, she starts signing potty. Several times, kind of insistantly. I wrap it up and offer her the toilet. Ha ha ha, she cries and looks at me like I've got to be kidding. Then she signs potty again. Fine. I leave Ben in the bathroom (he is currently running the sink water making a sink bath for his feet) and go to the other bathroom where the seat adapter and the baby potty reside. I put Alli on the toilet with her adapter and she sits for a second and then suddenly seems to notice I am naked. (we are still dripping wet from our shower here, so it's not like a SURPRISE) But she goes nuts and says nuh nuh nuh (nurse) over and over and cries to get down from the potty. So I get her down, bring her to the bed and we nurse until I hear "HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" coming from the other bathroom.

I leave Alli, run across the living room and go and see what has happened to Ben. He is fine, but has knocked the shelf out of the mirror cabinet and toiletries are everywhere. Thankfully he did not try to clean up, since there were razors and things.

I put the shelf back, clean up, and then Ben asks where Alli is.

"In the bedroom where I left her, since I thought you were having an emergency."

"I'll go check on her!"

"Thanks sweetie."

"MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BABY IS COVERED IN POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

And so she is. As well as the bed and the carpet and the laundry that was on the ground and several books.

Of course.

Signing potty in the shower, but not wanting to go held over the toilet. Sitting down on her seat and then suddenly wanting to nurse. Duh. In hindsight, I could have seen this coming a mile away.

I send Ben to play in his room, put Alli back in the cage and started cleaning.

He wanders back a few minutes later and says "Mom, I forgive you."

I start mentally counting to a thousand, but it's not working.

"Forgive me? You're the one who got her out of the cage ... wait, how DID you get her out of the cage?"

"I lifted up the bottom and she crawled under it"

oh. of course.
